Hi, my name is John Schuerman and I want to thank you for browsing my website. I would like to take the time to briefly tell you a little bit about the law firm and myself.

My family and I were raised in Ripley County on a dairy farm near Napoleon, Indiana. Osgood, Versailles, and Napoleon were my stomping grounds in my younger days. In these areas, I developed my core work ethic, my integrity, honesty, and common sense that all residents in southern Indiana seem to posses through hard work, honesty, and diligence. I had family in law enforcement growing up including Joe Schuerman as Sheriff of Ripley County.

I decided to go off the big city, and go to Purdue for Agricultural Education. As I was at Purdue studying agriculture for some reason, still unknown to me, I decided to take up a law degree. When I graduated, I took the bar exam and became a lawyer. I moved back to my hometown and my family. I wanted to try to help my neighbors and friends. I felt the best way to do that was through law enforcement and public service.

For eight years, I was the prosecuting attorney for Ripley County. After my eight years as serving as prosecutor, I thought it would be more lucrative to get out of the government practice and move into a private practice, which I did.

Again, I thought about helping people. In a general practice, I would have the opportunity to meet all kinds of people, neighbors, friends, and be able to help them.

In the course of doing that, I found that in a divorce for instance, that one side is going to be happy with you and the other side is not going to be too happy at all. So, after experimenting with some divorces, general practice, and criminal law, where I found out pretty quick that you do not get paid, I decided to shift my focus to fight big corporations after I helped a couple people fight insurance companies when their homes had burnt down and the insurance company denied coverage for one reason or another. Basically, I realized this was a win win situation. I was helping the local people who were taking on big insurance companies, and I was working on a contingency fee where nobody has to come up with a lot of money to pay me. I only got paid if I succeeded, and the only people unhappy with me were the big insurance companies. So, I decided to focus on that area of practice, which I continue to focus on today. I guess if I have to wrap in a single sentence what my staff and I do for the general public is we give them professional help and honest answers. In doing so, it has been very gratifying for myself.
